New 'Discover Portugal' course at the University of the Algarve in collaboration with AFPOP

lisbonmapPortugal’s largest Foreign Residents’ Association, AFPOP, continues its collaboration with the University of the Algarve (UAlg), with the creation of a part-time course for foreigners entitled ‘Discover Portugal’.

The course, which begins on Thursday 31st March and runs for 13 weeks, will introduce many aspects of Portugal, its people, history, culture and gastronomy to those foreigners who have chosen to make Portugal their home.

Algarve veterinary team in prime time TV spot

janetownsonVeterinary surgeon Scott Miller, well known to hundreds of pet owners across the Algarve, is the star of Vet on the Hill which launches on UK TV’s More4 this coming Monday evening, March 7 at 9pm.

The 10-episode series, based around the Australian’s Richmond-upon-Thames veterinary clinic, features another well known personality, the Algarve-raised veterinary nurse, Emma Townson (pictured).

Shoppers deterred from visiting VRSA city centre

vrsaVila Real de Santo António council has decided to deter shoppers in the city for 30 years by allowing a widespread parking meter scheme in return for a monthly fee. 

Parking meters in and around the city centre already have been installed to the horror of local shopkeepers who fear less trade will result. More meters are planned, bringing the total to 1,800.

International Competitions for Local Barista

Nuno Miguel Pereira Nineteen year-old Faro-born Nuno Miguel Pereira is a barista whom everyone would be delighted to see behind the counter of their usual cafe. Let’s not be fooled by his age, because he has already participated in international contests in his area of expertise. He was recently chosen to take part in a European contest in Romania, and he achieved a very creditable seventh place. Even this Romanian competition was not his first competitive effort. Earlier this year he took part in a contest in Aveiro in the north of Portugal, where he won fourth prize.
