The defendants are the ex-president of the board and a director of services, arrested in 2017 by the Judiciary Police (PJ) on suspicion of having harmed the institution by robbing it of around 95 thousand euros.

The Prime Minister has stated this Wednesday that the country cannot cope with another lockdown period of confinement if it becomes necessary to limit the spread of Covid-19, warning that the time is "very short" for society to prepare itself for the coming winter season.

Portugal has been placed among the group of countries that had a less effective response to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a report released by a team from the University of Cambridge. In a specific ranking of countries’’ reactions to the outbreak, Portugal appears in 25th place among the 33 countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) nations evaluated.

Portugal is in danger of failing to prepare effectively for a possible resurgence of Covid-19 cases in the winter, said public health doctor Ricardo Mexia this weekend.  “We already had some time to prepare after that initial clash”, in which the exponential growth of cases that occurred in countries like Spain was avoided, but, “from the point of view of resource preparation, there was no real planning and the problems we face in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region are still too much in sight,” said Mexia in statements to the Lusa news agency.
