Algarve health service failure despite increased funds

stethascopeIn an attempt to deflect any blame for the crisis that has finished looming and now envelopes the Algarve’s health service, the Regional Health Administration said today that the new Hospitals of the Algarve management body that runs Faro, Portimao and Lagos hospitals received "a total of €74 million between 2011 and 2013."

These additional funds were for the "financial recovery" of the hospitals and for paying long-overdue invoices from suppliers, some of which had been waiting for years.

Random ANA fee increases at Portugal's airports

anaFrench-owned airports operator ANA is hiking its fees to airlines this December.

ANA, owned by the French infrastructure giant Vinci Group, commented today that this increase represents an average increase of 40 cents per passenger to a value still “15% below prices in other European countries."

Unemployment falls in Portugal, but not according the the unions

gypsiesSeizing on figures from the National Statistics Institute, Portugal’s Minister of Solidarity, Employment & Social Security, Pedro Mota Soares, said today during a visit to the sunny Algarve that the second quarter unemployment data show that the Portuguese economy is creating more and more jobs.

Soares said the data released today, pointed to an unemployment rate of 13.9% in the second quarter of 2014.

Law on Dangerous Dogs impossible to comply with

dogdangerousThe law that requires owners of dangerous and potentially dangerous breeds of dog to have their animals trained by a certified professional is not being applied, despite being in force for one year.

The legislation was passed on 3 August 2013 and laid out a set of conditions for owners of dangerous dogs, defined as a dog with a history of violence,  and potentially dangerous dogs, including the necessity to hold a certificate that shows the dog has been through a rigorous course run by a certified trainer.
