German woman struck down and killed on A2 motorway in Silves

inemA woman died on Monday night after being hit by a car on the A2 motorway in the Monte Branco area in the Silves municipality.

According to the official website of the Civil Protection service, the incident was reported at 21:27.

No relief from aircraft noise for Albufeira residents

Cruise ship used for cocaine smuggling - 12 arrested

cocaineInvestigators from the UK’s National Crime Agency and Portugal’s Judicial Police, arrested 12 people on a cruise ship after discovering 18 kilos of cocaine hidden in crisp packets and ceramic bowls.

The suspects include two British nationals and a Dutch citizen based in London, were detained after the cocaine was found on MSC Opera as it docked in Funchal in Madeira on a cruise that started in the Caribbean.

Ryainair agrees peace deal with pilots based in Portugal

ryanair1Ryanair's management said on Tuesday, April 2nd, that its pilots based in Portugal have voted for a four year labour agreement, taking another step to head off the risk of further strikes affecting passengers over summer season.

The pay and conditions agreement was negotiated between Ryanair and the pilots union, SPAC, to cover the airline's directly employed pilots based in the country.

Drought set to continue

droughtriverVanda Pires, from the Climate Change Division of the Portuguese weather service, said that in March there was an increase in the area of the country affected by the current drought, was 37.5%, while at the end of February it was 4.8%.

In February there was no extreme drought, but in March there was extreme drought in the Algarve, between Faro and Vila Real de Santo António.

Olhão hit-and-run victim out of intensive care

INEM125The 21-year-old woman who was run over and left critically injured in ditch at the side of the EN125 in February, is out of intensive care at Faro hospital.

The hit and run happened early in the morning on a stretch of road between Olhão and Fuseta.
