Madeira - Arnault buys Belmond Reid's Palace hotel in €2.8 billion deal

ReidsHotelterraceLouis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH) is to Belmond, the company that owns the Reid's Palace Hotel in Madeira, among other properties.

The €2.8 billion deal is expected to be signed in the first half of 2019, subject to approval by Belmond’s shareholders and clearance from competition authorities.

Government accuses opposition of lying about crumbling roads and bridges

The government has lashed out at the opposition CDS-PP party, accusing it of manipulating the public and lying to try to create a, "feeling of fear and insecurity" about the state of the country's roads, bridges and railways.

The government was shocked to find out that the opposition is launching a nationwide condemnation of the country’s infrastructure, pointing to "the government's choice of maximum tax burden and minimum public investment," according to the CDS-PP president, Assunção Cristas.

Emergency Medical Service helicopter crashes - no survivors

INEMHelicopterThe INEM has confirmed that four people died in a helicopter crash in the Serra de Santa Justa near Porto.

"The National Medical Emergency Institute (INEM) announces that the emergency medical helicopter that has been missing was located at about 01:30 am, The aircraft in question was located in the Pias mountain range, in the municipality of Valongo. There are four confirmed dead," reads the INEM statement released shortly after 02:00 on Sunday morning.

Lisbon tram derails and crashes with 28 on board

Algarve road deaths - worst year for a decade

Violent criminals arrrested in Olhão

The Police caught one ringleader, a 34-year-old Portuguese man who already has served time for violent and serious crimes. He has been remanded in custody until his trial.
