Minister slams Post Office branch closure programme

Pedro Marquês added that "unfortunately" there is no way that he can doing anything about the situation as the CTT Post Office business was sold off by the government and now is in private hands.

For sale - Uranium concentrate 'stored in barrels' in abandoned mine

The material has been in storage since the closure of the Urgeiriça mines in 1999.

Porto's tourist tax to pay for new police cars

AMAL, the Algarve’s mayor’s group, voted to impose a tourist tax to fund projects to do with ... tourism. This decision now has to be ratified on a council-by-council basis and it is already clear that various Council Assemblies will vote down the proposal, creating a patchwork of tourist tax Councils, unable easily to fund general projects as not all municipalities contributed.

BPN fraud trials - stiff sentences handed out to former Directors

BPNOliveiraFormer minister Arlindo de Carvalho and the former president of Banco Português de Negócios (BPN), Oliveira e Costa, (pictured) on Monday were convicted of fraud and tax fraud in another case relating to their management of BPN.

Arlindo de Carvalho, Oliveira e Costa and his partner in a real estate company, José Neto, were found guilty and sentenced in in Lisbon. Ricardo Oliveira was acquitted.

Emergency landing at Faro Airport

The Transavia service from Funchal to Amsterdam had 149 people on board.

Portuguese businessman murdered in Mozambique after ransom had been paid

maputoA Portuguese businessman has been murdered in Mozambique after his kidnapping and subsequent payment of a ransom, reported the Secretary of State for Portuguese Overseas Communities, José Luís Carneiro.

The victim has lived and worked in Mozambique for eight years in the civil engineering sector.
