Faro joins hundreds of cities worldwide for 'Rise for Climate' march

worldThe city of Faro is to act as host to the Rise for Climate's 'World Climate March' on September 8th, an initiative that will take place in hundreds of cities across the world to demand greater effort and action over ​​climate change from politicians.

"This will be a march for the Algarve to come together and demand an energy transition that will remove our dependence on fossil fuels, promote the creation of jobs in the public sector in key sectors, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to demand that no infrastructure for the exploitation of fossil fuels should be built in Portugal – not off Aljezur, not at Aljubarrota, not anywhere in the country," say the local organisers.

Algarve hotel workers to receive backdated pay award

HOTELRECEPTIONGALEAs the summer season draws to a close, the Algarve regions’ hotels finally have agreed to pay a long overdue increase in wages and subsidy rates for their staff.

In the Labour and Employment Bulletin a review of the Collective Labour Agreement for Hotels in the Algarve was published after it was signed with the Algarve Association for the Hospitality Industry.

Albufeira Council pressured to act over illegal bullfighting publicity

bullfightingThe Left Block in Albufeira wants the Council to start doing its job and issue a fine to the organisers of bullfighting events in the city as an advertising car was driving around promoting a forthcoming event last August 17th, well after the after 8:00pm advertising cut-off time.

According to the Bloquistas, "on August 16 and 2018, at 9:19 pm, a publicity car at Albufeira's bullring was stopped at the traffic lights at the intersection between Rua dos Bombeiros Voluntários and Avenida dos Descobrimentos, broadcasting advertising through a loudspeaker."

Miguel Leal da Câmara, originally from the Azores, is accused of murdering Marco Moreira, a 45-year-old Brazilian man, and trying to shoot his ex-girlfriend afterwards.

Government to spend €500,000 on renovations to have “evacuated lynx” back in Silves by November

LynxThe Portuguese government will invest €500,000 to rebuild parts of the lynx reproduction centre in Silves which was damaged by the raging wildfire that ripped through parts of Monchique, Silves and Portimão at the start of the month.

The centre’s 29 lynx had to be evacuated on August 8 to another centre in Spain where they will remain until the Silves centre is rebuilt and once again able to home the big cats.

Deft legal footwork keeps pressure on pro-oil government

On August 14th, the same day that the Ministry of Sea contested the Loulé court decision, that agreed with a legal claim by three anti-oil associations that the TUPEM licence should be declared invalid, ASMAA lodged a further challenge in the same court.

Premier FX shock - Barclays client account holds 'minimal funds'

PremierFXPeter Hart, joint administrator at PKF Geoffrey Martin & Co, has confirmed that the situation at Premier FX is at the bottom end of dire, with the clients’ account at Barclays, pretty much drained.

There are no signs of any funds with which to repay hundreds of loyal Premier FX customers. The joint administrator says he is looking to see if funds are held by third parties but many customers, now at the end of their financial tethers, are not  longer holding their breath.
