Why the Portuguese taxpayer is funding this appeal by the Ministry of the Sea and the General Directorate of Marine Resources is interesting as as this would seem to be the concession holder's fight, not a taxpayer funded struggle against something the taxpayer generaly doesn't want to see happen.

Ryanair kicks autistic child off Faro flight

ryanair13Ryanair cabin crew ordered the removal of a thirteen-year-old autistic girl from her return flight from Faro to East Midlands Airport, leaving her distressed and stranded at the airport. 

Daisy Jarvis, 13, was forced off the flight after cabin crew refused to believe that she was flying with family members, despite there being several family members on board and had her removed by security.

‘Eucalyptus King’ Pedro Queiroz Pereira dies at 69

EuacalyptusPereiraPedro Queiroz Pereira, controller of Semapa and Navigator, two of the largest Portuguese companies involved in the eucalyptus business, has died at the age of 69.

Pereira was from Lisbon and had interests in the paper and hotel industry - he owned the Ritz in Lisbon - but his focus was on planting more and more eucalyptus to feed his pulp mills and supply biomass power stations.

Hot weekend forecast for most of the country

All regions will see temperatures rise to those expected in an Iberian August with only Bragança, Vila Real and Viseu not reaching yellow, the third highest on the four colour scale.

Council slaughters 50 dogs before animal welfare law's September start date

DogBragaKennelIn a possible over-reaction to an outbreak of distemper, while fully aware that new animal welfare laws start this September, a Council has overseen the slaughter of 50 dogs which those that care for animals say was unnecessary.

Dozens of people gathered in Praça da República, in the center of Braga, to express their disgust at the way the local Council managed an outbreak of distemper at the Official Collection Centre for dogs.

Anti-bullfight activists file complaint against attackers

bullfightingAnti-bullfighting activists from the Vegan Strike Group have filed a complaint against attackers who assaulted them as they were being led from Albufeira bullring by the GNR.

Video taken at the August 9th bullfight in Albufeira recorded three activists invading the centre of the bullring to demonstrate against the contentious blood sport.

'Meet the new boss, same as the old boss' - Algarve health chief re-appointed as nurses' strike continues

nurseAs the Algarve’s Regional Health Administration continues to ignore nurses’ union requests for a full and frank meeting over nurses' back pay and career progression, the government confirmed the appointment of Dr Paulo Morgado as the Algarve health region’s president, for a five year term.

Dr Paulo Morgado has been doing the job since March 1st last year, but only on an interim basis. He now has been confirmed in the post after the job was advertised and other candidates considered by the selection board at the Recruitment and Selection Committee for Public Administration.
