Portimão apartment explosion was deliberate

fireWhat at first seemed like an accidental gas explosion in a seventh floor apartment in Portimão yesterday, has turned into a criminal investigation after a woman today was arrested and charged with arson.
 
The explosion and fire happened in a block of apartments in Rua 25 de Abril. Local fire fighters rushed to the scene to prevent the blaze spreading to other apartments and extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes.

Silves and Loulé emergency road works to start

roadworksInfrasetruturas de Portugal has confirmed that work contracts have been awarded to repair and improve the EN124 and EN396.
 
The road works are part of the lightweight €1 million emergency package announced at the end of April by Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins, to repair the EN125 eastern section, the EN396 in Loulé and the EN124 between Port de Lagos and Silves.

Environmental alliance demands resignation of Environment Minister

Juncker Plan guarantees €200 million loan package for Portuguese companies

The expectation is that 1,250 small and medium-sized companies will benefit from loan guarantees available as from Thursday, May 24.

Councils slaughtering cats and dogs before welfare law start date

Last year, 12,000 cats and dogs were killed at overloaded municipal kennels where many vets used the needle to reduce numbers. The new law stipulates new, strict criteria before an animal may be put down.

Portugal much improved in World Competitiveness ranking
