An innovative new customer service was introduced at Faro Airport this week that lets customers use the “Coindrum” machines to convert all their unwanted coins into a shopping voucher for the Duty Free Store.

Its main advantage for travellers is that they won’t have unwanted Euro coins currency left once they depart Portugal, however the service also offers an extra perk: vouchers are worth 10% more than whatever customers deposit into the unit.

Eco-organisation Almargem has come out against the huge solar park planned for Alcoutim area, especially as nobody seems to know who is behind it.

"The Almargem Association has issued a negative opinion on the environmental impact study of the proposed Alcoutim Photovoltaic Centre that recently was under public discussion.

At issue is the construction of a solar 'mega centre', which plans the occupation and complete destruction of an area of 600 hectares of Algarve countryside with the installation of approximately 2.4 million photovoltaic panels to produce 220 MW of electricity, more than four times the installed power of the Solar Centre in Amareleja.

This was the general consensus by over 110 people who attended the Cybercrime and Computer Security Seminars held at the Conrad Hotel and Tavira Municipal Library on 24th and 30th September respectively.

The events organized by Safe Communities Algarve, included presentations by inspector Ricardo Valadas of the Judicial Police and Jim Litchko, a Computer Security Analyst from the USA. Inspector Valadas outlined the threats posed through the internet and social media, including how in a matter of minutes cyber criminals can develop a profile of social media users. He also outlined the dangers to youngsters particularly in the use of Facebook and Twitter.
