carvoeirobeachAre we already at that time of the year again?  I must be getting old(er) because it feels like 2016 has flown by and while the interweb keeps on telling me it has been the worst year ever, it feels actually like it has been a good one on the whole down here in Carvoeiro.

Sometimes it can be a pain living in a place that most people can’t point to on a map (Do you mean Puerto Rico?) but when the world appears to be going a bit mad it can be a nice feeling to be off the radar a little and that’s the way I like it here.

Miguel Cosme plays ‘Bluntschi’ and Samantha Birnie as ‘Raina’A Portada’s next appearance is at Cine-Teatro Loulé on Friday, December 16th and Saturday the 17th. Their new production is of 'Arms and the Man' by George Bernard Shaw. Although it deals with serious subject matter it is the nearest Shaw ever got to farce and is acclaimed as his wittiest comedy. Written at the end of the 19th century its anti-war message was the 'Blackadder Goes Forth' of its time.

Nikola MeeuwsenAt the age of five, Nikola heard a recording of Rachmaninoff’s third piano concerto, played by Vladimir Horowitz. At that moment he knew that he wanted to play the piano and his enthusiasm and talent for the piano flourished. His breakthrough came when he won the 2012 Steinway Competition in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, together with the audience´s prize. In 2014 he won the “Concertgebouw Competition” and in 2015 he finished second in The Young Pianist Foundation Competition.

Pollen: The Musical review - The Algarveans blossomPollen:The Musical is Ian Carfrae's brainchild and it was a pleasure to be there at its birth tonight (October 20). I could never imagine that the Algarveans would be up to successfully performing another musical (Honk being the first), but tonight proved just how wrong I could be.

Her Excellency Orla TunneyHer Excellency Orla Tunney, Irish Ambassador to Portugal, visited the Algarve last weekend with her husband and children.
On Saturday 3 September the Ambassador and her husband attended the St Patrick'0s Society End of Summer Party to enjoy an evening with Society members and their friends.

A Summer Festival filled with fun, foam, fabulous food and funky music! On the 13th August, under a brilliant azure sky and a sizzling golden sun, Boavista hosted its first Summer Festival which was enjoyed by local residents and guests holidaying on the resort. The event got under way with a refreshing welcome drink, aptly named ‘summer lovers’, provided by the José Repolho winery.

To compensate for the soaring afternoon temperatures, guests were able to chill out in inflatable pools of water or frolic amidst clouds of silky foam. For the more energetic, games of aqua football were organised while the dance floor came alive with ‘Zumba’ led by Ana Leal and Saúl Maurício. The rhythmic reggae sounds of Jahlita Friends enticed people to boogie the afternoon away in a convivial atmosphere.
