The new Alojamento Local laws for short-term tourist lettings includes an obligation for property owners in buildings covered by condominium legislation, to take out multi-risk civil liability insurance.

This might sound sensible, except this type of insurance does not exist, something the legislators failed to check out before publishing the decree law.

A Guinness World Record has been established for the most expensive port wine sold at auction.

The first of five Lalique demijohn decanters, each engraved with a name from one of the five van der Niepoort generations, has been sold for €111,000.

With an already overloaded justice system groaning under the volume of backed-up cases, the Association of Portuguese Judges has announced a 21-day national strike.

A website and app have been launched for motorhome owners coming to the Algarve and aims to eradicate the practice of ‘wild camping’ that has been blamed for many of the negative impacts this form of tourism can have on the region.

The website, launched by the Coordination and Regional Development Commission of the Algarve (CCDR-Algarve), aims to promote the region while making clear what the current laws mean for motorhome owners.

The 14 projects already approved under an incentive scheme to attract movie-makers to in Portugal, should bring in €23.7 million, according to the Ministry of Culture.

"So far - and including applications that came in 2017 under the previous tax regime - incentives already have been approved for 14 projects, which include productions from the USA, India, Brazil, Portugal or Italy, and several joint productions from Portugal and France, and, Portugal, Spain and France, adding up a total investment of €23.7 million in filming in Portugal."

For individual courses, St Andrews Links (Old Course), Scotland scooped the award for ‘World's Best Golf Course’, while The Belfry was recognised as ‘World's Best Golf Hotel’.

The coordinator of the Emigration Observatory says that Portugal "desperately needs" more immigrants and, in order to solve the problem of lack of labour, should make it easier for foreigners to come and work here - the government should,  "run recruitment campaigns in key overseas markets."
