Brexit to hit Portuguese tourism and exports

brexitLenPortugal’s tourism and exports from the automotive sector are two of the areas that are liable to be affected the most from Brexit, according to a study sponsored by the Confederação Empresarial de Portugal.

This work, supported by Ernst & Young - Augusto Mateus & Associados, analyzed the impact of the UK’s exit from the European Union on several Portuguese products and service exports.

Faro - Marseille service starts on Friday

ryanair12Ryanair started its Faro to Marseille, twice-a-week service, on November 2nd, the first of five new wintertime flights that the carrier is launching.

The others are from Faro to, Berlin, Cologne, Cork and Milan-Bergamo.

Algarve chill continues

An orange warning has been issued by the weather service which warns also of snow in the Guarda district where the maximum temperature will struggle to reach 6° Celsius.

Circus animals in Portugal to be handed over to the State

lionCircusPortugal’s circus owners soon will have six months to register all of the wild animals they have in their shows. They then will then be licensed to keep these animals for up to six years before having to hand them over to the authorities.

Parliament today approved a bill to curb, not ban, the use of wild animals in circuses. The new law updated the 2009 legislation and provides for a national register of circus animals which will have to be completed within six months after the publication of the law.

'Made in Portugal' - counterfeit clothing destined for Paris seized by ASAE

counterfeitASAE’s Criminal Investigation Unit has intercepted a loaded and ready-to-go goods vehicle bound for Paris with about 2,000 items of counterfeit clothing on board, valued at €70,000.

The fake garments had come from a Portuguese textile factory and had been carefully concealed in the middle of the HGV’s innocent looking, legitimate cargo to try and trick any en route inspections.

Portugal's Post Office profits down 49%

cttcounterThe decline in profitability of Portugal’s Post Office business continues, with profits down 49.3% to under €10 million for the first nine months of the year compared to the same period in 2017.

CTT boss, Francisco de Lacerda, has been overseeing a major restructuring plan, the cost of which has eaten into profitability. So far, shareholders have allowed him to continue but the lack of return and the erosion of share value leaves him in a precarious position.

Minister for the Environment - 'from monster to Prince' in 24-hours'

This unconditional statement tops the earlier Socialist government pledge that no new licences will be issued ‘during the life of this government.’
