BPP Directors receive suspended sentences despite €41 million fraud

Thousands of household still without electricity

Algarve attracted record 40% of Portugal's tourism market this August

11459The Algarve's hotels recorded more than three million overnight stays in August, the strongest month of the high season for tourism in Portugal, taking a 40% share of the total number of nights spent in the country by tourists.

The regional tourist authority said National Statistics Institute figures show that in a single month, a total of 3,028,000 overnight stays were recorded in the Algarve’s hotels with an unknown additional number spent in rental properties.

Hurricane Leslie sets new Portuguese wind speed record

Lisbon to double its 'Tourist Tax'

lisbon2Lisbon Council has decided that tourists should pay more for Council services, such as cleaning and transport, and has decided to increase its ‘tourist tax’ by 100%.

The tax will go up on January 1st, 2019, from €1 to €2-a-night, but capped at seven nights, “to strengthen urban cleaning and transportation in areas with greater tourism pressure,” the Council has announced.

US fund ditches EDP shareholding
