This legal step is unlikely to excuse the former prime minister from having to answer charges, including money laundering and corruption, as Sócrates is the star turn in Operation Marquês that has seen many of Portugal prominent businessmen and politicians investigated and charged.

Loulé Council extends water and sewage services to further villages

water2The public tender for a new water supply and sewage network for Clareanes, Malhada Velha and Carvalhal, all in the parish of S. Clemente, on the outskirts of the city of Loulé, has been approved.

The €2.5 million spend will improve the lives of 250 inhabitants.

MEO shamed - customer complaints rise 47% in a year

fibreopticComplaints about MEO topped the register last year with the National Communications Authority receiving 101,100 complaints about telecoms suppliers and Portugal’s postal services.

According to the latest report from ANACOM, 57,000 complaints were registered in complaints books with a further 17,000 registered using the new online complaints service. A further 27,000 complaints were made directly to ANACOM.

Silves man found dead with deep head wounds

Jose Martins Nunes, 57, known locally as 'Zé Prego', was found with five deep head wounds.

Portimão to Bragança air route takes off

portimaoaerodromeThe air service between Portimão and Bragança in the north of Portugal has announced its best occupancy figures since the subsidised service was launched in December 2015.

So far this year, 12,006 passengers have used the service, or parts of it as the route included stops in Vila Real, Viseu and Cascais.
