Novo Banco makes a first quarter profit

A year earlier in the same quarter, the bank lost €130.9 million and later in 2017 drew €792 million from the Resolution Fund under the terms of the sale agreement with US vulture fund, Lone Star.

Three more named as defendants in Pedrógão Grande criminal inquiry

Margarida Gonçalves of the Civil Protection force for the Pedrógão Grande area; José Graça, Pedrógão’s deputy mayor and António Castanheira, the general manager of the Council, are the new defendants.

Doubling of healthcare complaints in the Algarve

The sprawling but deeply flawed empire run by Ricardo Espírito Santo controlled 65 offshore companies and had stakes in 429 companies across the world. But two offshores companies were left off the list.

Weather to improve on Tuesday

Portuguese join Spanish anti-nuclear protestors in Salamanca

nuclearEnvironmental protestors from Portugal and Spain joined forces at a demonstration in Salamanca, demanding that the newly formed Spanish Government shuts down nuclear power plants and scraps the licence for the uranium mine in Retortillo near the border.

The demonstration was organised by the Iberian Antinuclear Movement and attracted over 2,000 people.
