Wandering horse problem dealt with by Lagos council

horseLagos council is to contract a horse collection and care service to deal with the problem of those that are abandoned or wander off.

A tendering process has started in order to attract bidders to run the service that will collect, transport and look after the horses. The notice, published on December 21st, in Diário da República, states that the maximum amount available for this project is €75,000-a-year.

Algarve remains short of nurses as 'flu cases peak

nurseAlthough the Algarve Regional Health Authority’s announcement on Thursday that 65 regional nurses' jobs have been filled, was welcomed by the union, it commented that there is still a lack of nurses in the Algarve.

The Union of Portuguese Nurses added that some of these nurses already have been working in the Algarve’s Health Centers under a temporary work regime and now have had their posts confirmed but there remain 146 nursing posts to be filled under the health ministry’s own formula for calculating staff numbers.

Novo Banco fined by Luxembourg regulator

Luxembourg’s Financial Sector Supervisory Commission imposed administrative sanctions on nine financial companies, including four banks, for a total of €2.12 million, without specifying the fines imposed on each.

Taxpayers to subsidise another wind farm controlled by Lena Group

windfarmThe government has approved a €24 million wind farm near Batalha which will saddle the public with 'feed-in tariff' subsidy payments as the project was proposed in 2009 when such subsidies still existed.

The project in the Serra d'Aire, is controlled by Eneólica, part of the Lena Group whose boss is a key figures in Operation Marquês, accused of channelling illicit funds to the former Prime Minister José Sócrates in return for lucrative contracts.

Novo Banco sale document must be handed over to investors

novobancoshinylogoThe Lisbon Administrative court has ruled that the Bank of Portugal must disclose the sale agreement covering Novo Banco's sale.

The agreement details will not become public knowledge as only those international funds that invested in Banco Espírito Santo (BES) bonds will have access and even then, parts of the agreement that the Bank of Portugal considers confidential, will be withheld.
