One in four of the Algarve’s pharmacies faces closure

At the start of 2018, 31 one pharmacies in the Algarve faced insolvency or seizure of assets, according to a tracking survey from the statistics centre of the National Association of Pharmacies.

VW Group vehicles worse off after mandatory software update

Consumer watchdog Deco recently launched a survey to find out how this software update had affected VW Group vehicles and was taken aback when of 10,584 owners, many said their cars were suffering from increased engine noise and were using more fuel despite having less power.

This offshore company is suspected as acting as the channel through which the Espírito Santo Group, aka Ricardo Salgado, ensured support where needed and silence when necessary.

Hashish-laden fishing boat spotted by regular Air Force patrol

hash2A 53-year-old Spanish citizen and a 22-year-old Moroccan have been arrested during a dawn raid on their fishing boat as it transported 56 bales of hashish towards the Algarve.

Portugal’s Judicial Police, Air Force, Coastal Control Unit of the GNR and the Maritime Police, were involved in a coordinated operation to intercept the vessel off Manta Rota beach, Vila Real de Santo António.

Earthquake near Monchique measured 3.3 on the Richter scale

The tremors hit at 11:42 on Saturday, January 20th, with the epicenter estimated to have been 10 kilometres northeast of the town and many locals feeling the results.

Banco Privado Português directors trial - 'severe punishment' called for

bppAs the trial of the former directors of the collapsed Banco Privado Português nears its conclusion, prosecution lawyer have asked the courts to throw the book at João Rendeiro, the former president of the bank.

Stating that Rendeiro, Paulo Guichard and Salvador Fezas Vitalis should be "severely punished," the lawyer acting on behalf of the bank, said they should all be locked up.

Ria Formosa - capsized dredger to be refloated this weekend - hopefully

Olhão’s port captain, Nunes Ferreira, said operations will commence at 09:00 and, if all goes according to plan, the 80-metre dredger will be righted on Sunday or Monday.
