Vila do Bispo wins top award for German U-35 submarine project

u35uboatVila do Bispo council has won the regional prize for Municipality of the Year Award 2017, due its Sagres U-boat project.

The municipality sent in its project, hoping to get some sort of recognition but mayor Adelino Soares was delighted to receive first prize from the panel at the University of Minho.

Arrested Almancil fraudster is Welsh former golfing champion

DuncanEvansThe arrest and pending extradition reported yesterday of a Briton living in Almancil (here) was of the Welsh 1980s golfing champion, Duncan Evans, who was nabbed by police on the fairway of a Quinta do Lago course.

Evans is wanted in the UK for a €22 million carousel VAT fraud after losing an appeal in June 2016.

European airlines warn of 'huge delays' at Lisbon airport

In today’s statement, the association noted that thousands of flights recently have had to be been postponed at European airports because of the new processing control procedures that leave many unable to get through border control in time.

Warehouse near Algarve Shopping destroyed by fire

fireA fire in a warehouse unit near the Algarve Shopping centre in Guia took hold last night but the fire service was hampered by a seriously congested EN125 road, standpipes with no water and the confusion that the firefighters had been called to a forest fire, not to a burning building.

Despite this, the Albufeira firefighters arrived in less than ten minutes but found the Neoparts warehouse fully ablaze with around 20 vehicles inside, along with tyres and car components.

The Judicial Police identified and arrested the man, thought to be a Briton, while liaising with their British counterparts.
