MPs resolution demands Australis is stripped of its oil exploration rights

oilonshorerigPortugal's parliament formally has recommended to the government executive that it suspends oil and gas exploration in the Alcobaça and Pombal concession areas, in accordance to a resolution just published in Diário da República.

In the official entry, MPs recommend that the executive, "makes every effort to cancel the exploration contracts for hydrocarbons in the Lusitanian Basin, in Alcobaça and Pombal, with the Australian company, Australis, Oil & Gas."

Duarte Lima acquitted in €5 million theft case

A Lisbon Criminal Court found Duarte Lima had no case to answer a key witness altered his testimony during the investigation.

Crime falls across Portugal

In the parliamentary commission for Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees, the Home Affairs Minister, Eduardo Cabrita, told MPs that the provisional 2018 data for crime showed that by November 2018, the trend of falling crime statistics had continued and quickened.

Deal signed for Montijo airport despite no environmental study

egretThe agreement to start work at the Montijo air base today was signed between Portugal’s airports concession holder and the Government.

The Montijo conversion should be completed by the end of 2022 but the contract covers work to 2028. The €1.15 billion cost will be borne by Aeroportos de Portugal (ANA), controlled by the French infrastructure group Vinci.

Algarve pickpocketing - gang boss arrested in Spain

The man, described only as “a 55-year-old foreigner with a long criminal record,” was arrested on a European Arrest Warrant and has been extradited to Portugal to face charges.

2018 saw record number of new companies - 40% in tourism

hotelvrsaThe 2018 numbers for company start-ups show that 45,191 new enterprises were created in Portugal last year. The figures from Informa D&B show a 10% increase over 2017.

Of the significant number of new companies, 40% are in sectors related to tourism, over 18,000 companies.

Castro Marim mayor quits to force new local election
