The road is dangerous, potholed and a depressing welcome to the Algarve for travellers. Locals are beyond despair at the road surface, or lack of, and went to Lisbon to demand that the Court of Auditors explains why it has been holding up the repairs, as the government repeatedly has claimed.

Algarve property prices up 4.9% in a quarter

Overall, the cost of property in Portugal increased 3.8% between January and the end of March 2018, to €1,754 per m2.

Portugal’s 2017 road death increase second highest in EU

crashlouleThe number of deaths on Portugal’s roads rose 14% in 2017 compared to the previous year, the second highest increase recorded in the European Union (EU) where the numbers fell by 2% overall.
 
According to preliminary data released by Brussels, Portugal’s 14% increase was second only to Cyprus where road deaths increased 15% over the year.

Conflict of interests survey - less than half of public sector entities respond

parliamentThe chairman of the Court of Auditors has presented a study on 'conflict of interest management in the public sector' which concludes that half of the respondents said they did not even have codes or ethical conduct guidelines to follow.
 
The president of the Council for Corruption Prevention, Vítor Caldeira, said that what’s needed is an "ethical adviser" within all public sector organisations that can act to prevent and manage conflicts of interest.

PwC survey - golf tourism in the Algarve generated €500 million in 2017

golfGolf tourism in the Algarve last year generated €370 million from golfers and supported 16,800 jobs – a total Gross Added Value of €500 million, according to a study by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
 
The study was commissioned by the Tourism Association of Algarve (ATA) - the agency responsible for tourism promotion of the Algarve in overseas markets.

London - Portugal's PM meets May to discuss Brexit
