ASMAA Action Plan for the Algarve

ASMAA Action Plan for the AlgarveThe State of Emergency declared by the Portuguese government has resulted in unexpected consequences. It created a serious economic disaster. The number of people that lost their sources of income, their livelihood is increasing daily and is affecting the most vulnerable people across our country – these are people with the least resources at their disposal and are people in desperate need of HELP right now and for the foreseable future!

Giving A Helping Hand

Giving A Helping HandEast Algarve Walking Football (EAWF) has stepped out to help the local communities in Olhão and Tavira. EAWF has already supported three local cafes, used by the players, by selling vouchers which can be redeemed for goods once the pandemic is over. The cash generated has been a lifeline for the cafes.

The Algarve Volunteer Network Helping Families in Need

algarve networkThe Algarve Network for Families in Need has now been delivering food to those MOST in need for six weeks now, ever since we first became aware of the extreme impact of the COVID-19 crisis on employment. Some people lost their jobs/work overnight and others, who were looking forward to resuming work at the start of the season saw that promised work disappearing. During these six weeks we have delivered in excess of 1000 very generous food packs across the region from Aljezur to Faro. But instead of thinking of numbers we need to consider that these are people, humans who are living the one life that they have been given, and when we consider that, we have to consider basic humanity. These are people who, were it not for the donations that have been made by people across the Algarve and beyond, would not have eaten.

How you can help support Algarve families in need

How you can help support Algarve families in needThe Algarve Network For Families in Need is a long standing and well developed charity in the Algarve concentrating primarily on acquiring items for Families in Need, from those people who no longer need them. We have been amazed over the years at the kindness and generosity of so many people who have donated so selflessly and for those who have launched appeals on our behalf so that we could continue to help  needy  homeless.

The current spread of the coronavirus has caused widespread hardship for many people particularly here in the Algarve where so much of the economy is dependant on tourism and hospitality.
