Leroy Merlin opens at the Loulé retail park

leroymerlinThe last piece of the retail jigsaw at the IKEA-owned retail centre near Loulé has been slotted into place with the opening of a Leroy Merlin store.

The new business covers one hectare and claims to be the largest household goods store in the region.

The surprising offer of a wild animal, supposedly captured in Alcoutim, was posted on Monday, December 11th and prompted the authorities to try and identify the person who posted the ad in order to see if the sale was genuine, or a hoax.

World Bank to cease oil and gas investments

The bank provides financial and technical support to developing countries but has drawn a new line in the sand over oil and gas development projects as its president addressed the One Planet climate change summi, pulled together by France’s president Macron, the president of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim, and United Nations Secretary-General, Portugal’s former PM, António Guterres.

More than 500,000 animals died in the October fires

In response to questions posed by the People Animals Nature party’s MP, André Silva, the Ministry estimates that by the end of October, more than half a million birds, cattle, sheep and pigs had died.

Government sets up working group to aid struggling Post Office

 cttcounterWell aware that CTT - Correios de Portugal - is struggling to hit targets, set in place as part of its privatisation, the government has decided to set up a working group in the expectation that a new set of measures will solve the Post Office's structural problems.

The Government will create a "work programme" by the end of March 2018 to analyse CTT’s service, to suggest improvements and, more concerningly for CTT's management,  to look at the contractual responsibilities in the concession agreement.

Army Engineers to clear agricultural tracks through Castro Marim's countryside

forrestTeams from the ‘Regimento de Engenharia Militar nº 1’ based at the Tancos military base is to travel to the Castro Marim council area to clear agricultural roads and tracks.

The deal was struck last year in which the council pays the Engineering Regiment for fuel, lodging and materials while the soldiers get experience in teamwork and use of heavy machinery in often tricky locations.
