ASB Members brave the cold in the hillsGrey skies, cold winds and the threat of a sudden shower did not stop 28 riders taking part in the first ride of 2016.

Group organiser David Shirley led the ride up into the hills to Malhão, above Salir, where a stop was made to take in the views and a warming coffee.

Algarve Burns Supper

Algarve Burns SupperThe Saint Andrew’s Society of the Algarve held their Burns Supper at the Ponte Romana restaurant in Silves on Saturday 23 January. According to Society Chieftain Doug McAdam “The Supper was a resounding success with almost a full house of 125 participants. We were particularly delighted on this occasion to be joined by British Ambassador Kirsty Hayes and her husband Peter”.

The International Choir of Aljezur Update

The International Choir of Aljezur The International Choir of Aljezur (Coro International de Aljezur) are beginning the new season with a change of venue.
We will meet every Thursday from 1600 – 1800 at the Amovate School Building, beginning on Thursday, 14th January 2016.

If you like music, please come along. Everyone is very welcome to give it a try. If you enjoy singing with us and do decide to join the choir, membership costs just 10 euros per month.
The choir sings a variety of music and in different languages.

The Saint Andrew’s Ball: Saturday 28 November 2015

Malcolm MacGillivrayThe Saint Andrew’s Society of the Algarve once again held a highly successful Saint Andrew’s Ball at the Penina Hotel with nearly 100 participants. Our piper Malcolm MacGillivray greeted guests into the hotel and then led the parade into the ball after the champagne reception. 

Portugal British Legion Continues To Expand

British LegionThe Royal British Legion’s footprint in Portugal continues to grow, following a Christmas charity lunch on the Algarve’s West Coast.
The Portugal branch of the Legion has been holding regular lunches and dinners across the Algarve for a number of years.
And now, thanks to their recent expansion onto the Algarve’s west coast the Legion was able to hold a Christmas fundraiser in Vale da Telha, outside Aljezur, attended by some of their more recent recruits.

The Duplicate Bridge Club of Lagoa

The Duplicate Bridge Club of LagoaThe Duplicate Bridge Club of Lagoa celebrated its' first Anniversary, in style, on 26th November. The Hotel Lagoa staff decorated the room with balloons,and two members brought in delicious home-baked cakes to complement the drinks provided by the Hotel.

A good turn out spent a fun afternoon playing Bridge to different rules, with prizes for the lucky ones.

Biking to the Barragem

Biking to the Barragem'sOn Thursday 26th John Bacon led the ASB members on a ride from Boliquieme, through the pretty valley from Santa Margarida near Alte to Vale Fuzeiros for coffee.

After the break a visit was made to the two reservoirs and dams near Silves. The Barragem Arade and the Barragem Funchão. It was surprising to see how low the water levels were after the recent heavy rains.
